Salem is located in the Willamette River valley. It is surrounded by natural beauty, and you can get to either the mountains or the beach in under an hour. Check out places like the Bush House Museum, Deepwood Museum and Gardens, and Williamette Heritage Center to learn more about the area, its history, and its culture.

There is actually interesting architecture to check out all around, from the Oregon State Capitol building to the Reed Opera House and even Frank Lloyd Wright's Gordon House. Of course, in the Reed Opera House, you'll also be able to check out some great music as well. In fact, there is pretty much always great music to be found somewhere in Salem. The city boasts a very strong arts scene, so always keep an eye out for cool events.

For the foodies among you, there are some great restaurants and breweries to sample here too. Make sure to stop by places like the Little Canoli Bakery, Roberts Crossing, which was first a grocery store but now has been converted into a great little restaurant, and the Wild Pear Restaurant.
